Marlborough Region Staycation

December 20, 2019 by kate

These days, staycations are becoming more and more popular. Perhaps it’s because we yearn for relaxing times without the preparation that travelling overseas involves. Or maybe we’re becoming more aware of the impact of our holiday carbon footprint. But most likely it’s because we live in the best little country in the world! With the Christmas holidays just around the corner, why not plan a Marlborough region staycation and become a tourist in your own backyard!

Marlborough region Staycation

In this week’s blog, we’ve put together a few tips to help you plan a Marlborough region staycation.

Tips to help you to create the perfect Marlborough Region staycation:

Create a staycation budget:

If you want to be a tourist in your own backyard, you’re going to need a holiday budget. Remember, you’ve saved a great deal on overseas travel and accommodation. So, use some of those savings to give back to your local economy. Go on a tour or visit a restaurant that you’ve never been to before.

Our friends at the Marlborough Tour Company have some wonderful cruises and tours that will show you the very best of the Marlborough region.

For the perfect Marlborough region, staycation dining experience visit the good people at Arbour, you’ll enjoy Marlborough on a plate!

Plan some souvenir hunting:

One of the greatest joys of travelling is bringing home a few mementoes of your trip. You’ll want to remember your Marlborough region staycation. So, buy something from a local artist to remind you of the summer you stayed at home! Visit the Millennium Art Gallery shop for local artwork, jewellery and books.

Spend as much time outside as you can:

Drag the tent from the garage and spend a night under the stars. Or pack a fancy picnic and dine al fresco. The warm summer months mean it’s easier than ever to explore the Marlborough region, so do as much as you can outside.

Travel a little further afield:

Hop in the car after breakfast, and you could be enjoying crayfish from Nin’s Bin on the Kaikoura Coast for lunch. Just a couple of hours drive away; beautiful Kaikoura awaits you. Book to watch some whales or visit the state of the art, award-winning, Kaikoura Museum.

At Bayleys Marlborough we’re delighted to bring you a very special prize draw that will give you a bird’s eye view of Kaikoura this summer.

We’ve teamed up with South Pacific Helicopters to give away a one-hour helicopter flight experience for four people. The lucky winner will enjoy a flight around the peninsula and through the mountains with a landing stop for a picnic.

All you have to do to enter is fill in a short form. Enter HERE for your chance to explore more of the Marlborough region this summer.
