Did you know that May is bike month? So it seemed appropriate to write an article that celebrates cycling in Marlborough. After all, we’re blessed with a great climate, (even in the winter months), and fabulous scenery, so what better way to see it than from the saddle!

Whether you’re a serious road biker, an adventurous mountain biker or a family who just want to enjoy some autumn sunshine and fresh air you’ll be pleased to know there’s a way that everyone can enjoy ‘bike month’ in Marlborough.
Mountain Biking in Marlborough:
We’re spoilt for choice with mountain bike trails in Marlborough. It doesn’t matter whether you want a quick post-work ride or a multi-day extravaganza. There are rides aplenty for you to enjoy.
The Taylor River Trail and the Rifle Range Trail (part of the Wither Hills Mountain Bike Park) are easy jaunts. If you want something, more challenging try the Nydia Track or the Queen Charlotte Track. There are plenty more to choose from, find them HERE.

Whether you want a casual Sunday cycle, a daily commute to work or to gear up for a competitive road race there are plenty of opportunities to take to two wheels in Marlborough.
The Marlborough District Council has implemented cycle lanes in Maxwell Road and Seymour Street. The Riverlands rail trail connects central Blenheim with Riverlands. Enjoy the wine trails on a sunny autumn day and stop for lunch at one of the fabulous wineries en route.
Marlborough is home to one of New Zealand’s best road bike events, The Forrest Grape Ride. And while you’ve missed this year’s event, you’ll be pleased to know you have a whole eleven months to prepare for next year’s event!
Take your wee ones into the Wither Hills; there are family friendly trails for everybody to enjoy. Alternatively, tootle along the Taylor River Trail. If the kids need a little more confidence on two wheels then help is at hand. Sign them up for Cycle Skills Training, find out more HERE.
