What previous work experience is useful for someone starting in real estate?
Previous sales experience (in any industry) is always a good starting point. But selling real estate is all about fantastic communication, so if you’ve been in a job where you’ve honed this skill, you’re in a great space. We have found that teachers and ex-police officers make great agents. Or, if you’ve been in a management role where you’ve had to liaise or communicate with team members and third parties, you could have what it takes to build a successful real estate career!
I’m straight out of college, is there still a role for me?
Yes, of course. Many of our successful agents have started in administration support. These exciting and varied positions mean that you’ll get hands-on experience and learn the ins and outs of real estate.
When you’re ready to progress in your real estate career, you can study for your New Zealand Certificate in Real Estate. At Bayleys Marlborough, our preferred provider is Open Polytechnic. Find out more about the courses here.
